Window Seals: How Strong Winds Affect Them

Our windows are an ever-important part of our home that we should always take care of, and one of the critical components that we should pay attention to is the window seals. However, window seals can deteriorate over time due to a variety of factors, including wind.

Window Seal Deterioration

Your window seals serve an important role in maintaining your home’s energy efficiency and the effectiveness of your windows. If your window seals start to fail, the rest of the window will follow. Keep in mind that no matter how much you take care of your window seals, they will fail eventually due to the elements. Extreme temperature changes and strong winds can speed up the deterioration of your windows as well.

The shifting temperatures causes the gasses inside your windows to expand and contract. In turn, this causes the frame to warp, which will affect the insulative properties of your windows. In time, you’ll need to get new replacement windows if the damage is too severe.

How Can Strong Wind Affect Them?

While strong wind in itself has little effect on your window seals if they are in great condition, this could be the final nail in the coffin if your window has preexisting issues, such as moisture and warping. Strong winds can bring debris that can damage the frame and the seal, which will make them deteriorate faster. If you live in a tropical climate, the wind can introduce water droplets into your frames and lead to moisture, mold and mildew damage if it isn’t addressed immediately. To prevent these issues from worsening, we recommend having regular inspections to see if there are any underlying issues that are affecting your windows so that they can be addressed immediately.
