Solar Heat Gain Part 2: Looking Through The SmartSun™ Glass

Solar heat gain is another consideration during window replacement. It is as important as the material and design. In fact, it is even non-negotiable since all windows are made with glass. At Renewal by Andersen® of Houston, our products are made with superior materials and manufactured using advanced technologies, which will help not only our clients in terms of energy bills, but also the environment.

Solar Heat Gain

Composition

Our High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ Glass option is coated on the exterior with metal oxide to make it easier to clean. It can reduce water spotting by up to 99% upon activation by sunlight. Inside the exterior coating is another multi-layer low emissivity Low-E coating that filters solar radiation and maximizes visible light that can pass through. Heat simply bounces back where it came from, maintaining your heat inside during winter and bouncing it back outside during summer.

This glass option is also the most energy-efficient among all the glass options we offer. It is 47% more energy-efficient during winter and 70% more efficient during summer. Aside from blocking excessive solar heat, it can also block 95% of harmful UV rays without affecting the clarity of light that gets through the glass. As for the insulation properties, we use an argon gas blend to fill the space between double-pane glass. These panes are then secured with two sealants, compressed butyl and formulated silicone. To ensure lasting durability of our window installation, we also clean off the exterior coating on the edge of the glass.

Proper Installation

Our experience and continuous training ensure that you get the best performance of our product. Unlike other installers, we make sure the glass will precisely fit in the opening. We use the correct sealant and safely handle the glass during transportation. We visit your home to take measurements and we would always clear the area prior to installation. Since we stand by our glass products, we offer a 20-year non-prorated warranty, the longest warranty you can ever find.

Care and Maintenance

To maximize the benefit of High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun Glass, it is also important that the homeowners are aware of its proper care and maintenance. For instance, casement windows can be cleaned during cloudy days to avoid quick dry up that causes streaks. Since our glass requires little maintenance, washing with a sponge soaked in dishwashing liquid is enough.
